Design is, by definition, a synonym for quality, and understanding its value means recognising its positive impact on the quality of life.
Elica’s orientation towards industrial design is the natural result of the company mission to produce articles created to make the environment we live in a more pleasurable place. And this commitment has been recognised by the prestigious international jury that has given the Good Design 2008 award to the Elica Collection hood Ola.
Ola was proclaimed one of 2008’s most representative design products by a wide range of professional designers and architects, some of the cultural scene’s most expert and authoritative figures. The Good Design Award, one of the oldest and most important international prizes for design, was launched in 1950 by the Chicago Athenaeum, the museum of art, design and urban studies of Illinois’ state capital, itself one of the world’s historic symbols of modern architecture. The jury assigned the award for the kitchen/domestic appliance sector to one of the models from the Evolution range of hoods, the Elica-patented system that packs all its technology into a compact steel cylinder, allowing immense versatility in terms of design.
Elica’s Ola hood is one that plays with appearance, looking at first sight like an ultra-modern, glamorous and attractive light source, and concealing its other function – developed by the Fabriano company through over thirty years of experience in the world of kitchen air cleansing – as a sophisticated appliance that rids the environment of unpleasant cooking odours.
Ola has also been picked out by the New York magazine Interior Design in its Best of the Year Awards competition, which highlights the best design products and projects of the year in 50 different categories.
This sort of recognition is the result of painstaking research and innovation in the field of design that really began back in the late 1990s, when Elica started working together with Bang & Olufsen’s historic designer David Lewis, and it has continued over the years with other big-name partnerships and also through the company’s own talented in-house design team, skilled creators of some of the most representative models of the Group’s various brands.
