An award for BUS-STOP at “iFdesign awards”

The AEG-brand cooker hood Bus Stop, a result of the collaboration between Elica and Electrolux, has been awarded a prize at the iFdesign Awards, one of international design’s most prestigious occasions.

Few companies have done as much as Elica to enhance the reputation of the cooker hood, a domestic appliance which is not only useful but also perhaps the one most capable of adding personality to the kitchen environment. Recognition obtained in the design field testifies to the fact that the hood is increasingly becoming a decorative design item. The latest evidence for this is the award given to AEG’s Bus Stop cooker hood at the iFdesign Award 2003 in Hanover. AEG, a brand of the Electrolux Group, world leader in the production of domestic appliances, conceived Bus Stop three years ago in collaboration with Elica, who made an important contribution to the aesthetic and functional ideas behind the hood, and whose factory produced it. Bus Stop has a particular feature that makes it unique of its type, looking as it does like as a slightly inclined wall-panel made out of steel, and with an aspiration system that, instead of being parallel to the cook top, is almost perpendicular to it. Its efficiency and high aspiration level, the results of detailed research carried out in the Elica laboratories in collaboration with AEG, have also been demonstrated on film. All the hood’s functions are operated by the control system designed for Elica by David Lewis, placed on the hood itself and supplied with a remote control. The look of the hood, the first thing which caught the attention of the jury at the German award event, was finally arrived at after a series of revisions by the AEG designer and Elica technicians. The awarding of the iFdesign prize, which has been one of the most prestigious awards in the design field since 1954, clearly demonstrates the importance and validity of the collaboration between Elica and Electrolux. The relationship between the Italian company, world leader in the production of cooker hoods, and the Swedish multinational, a major global presence in the production of domestic appliances, has lasted for more than 20 years and continues to evolve and improve in its firm determination to respond to consumer needs.
