Frontline wins the Red-dot award .

Design and technology: key reasons for the German awards given to two hoods produced by Elica for AEG.

The Elica image is founded on advanced design and technology and, as shown by the many awards their products have received, these important elements have helped guarantee success. After the selection of Wall Carpet for the Compasso d’Oro 2001, and the iFdesign 2003 award to the Bus Stop hood realised for AEG, Elica-produced models have also come up trumps in the 2003 edition of the Red-dot Award. This award for beautiful industrial products, started in 1954 by the Nordrhein Westfalen Design Centre in Essen Germany, is one of the most important in the industrial field.

The 2003 Red-dot Award jury has selected two cooker hoods produced for AEG by Elica, Frontline and Bus Stop, to be included this year amongst the products exhibited in the Essen Centre’s permanent museum.

The original concepts for the two winning hoods were developed by designers working for AEG, a company belonging to the Electrolux group, the Swedish multinational and leader in the domestic appliance market, and one of Elica’s biggest clients. These concepts were then elaborated by technicians in the Fabriano group’s research and design laboratory, who produced two models of an extremely high level in terms of the combination of materials and aspiration efficiency.

Frontline is one of two elements in the new AEG line with that name, which includes a cooker hood and cook top. Realised in aluminium and black glass, Frontline comes with a special “new logic touch interface” control, which allows all operational aspects to be activated simply by lightly brushing the surface of the glass. First unveiled in September 2002 at MOW in the wall version, Frontline is also being developed in the island version.

The Red-dot Award for the two AEG-brand products confirms yet again the strength of Elica and Electrolux’s twenty-year relationship: a relationship based on mutual trust and close collaboration.
